[Herbal]. Jacobus Theodorus Tabernaemontanus. New vollkommen Krauter-Buch... Basel: Jacob Werenfels for Johann Konigs, 1664. Enlarged edition (third edition edited by Caspar Bauhin and the first to be co-edited by Jerome Bauhin, after the first edition of 1588). Three parts in one folio volume. Approximately 14.75 x 9 inches. Illustrated with numerous woodcut illustrations of plants. Contemporary full pigskin over beveled boards, boards elaborately tooled in blind, one brass clasp and one brass plate for the leather ties (ties lacking) still present. Binding toned and worn, a long tear near the spine headcap, front free endpaper loose and torn (with a tape repair) and with an ink notation, hinges cracking, text toned and somewhat thumbsoiled. A few text leaves with minor damage. Still, a very good copy of this massive seventeenth-century herbal. Nissen 1931.Auction Info
