Oblong 8vo (8 1/2 x 11 inches; 216 x 277 mm). Original printed blue wrappers; quarter morocco folding case.

UNCORRECTED PAGE PROOFS OF THE FIRST EDITION OF A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR on the front wrapper: "Christmas, 1976 / To Gavin, / who sure as hell / helped 'to make / this work possible.' / Norman." With a photocopy of a talk (13 pp.) given to guests of the University of Chicago Press from the American Booksellers Association on June 7, 1976, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR on the first page: "To Gavin, you are one of the few people in / the world whom I know who are always interested in / what I write. I hope, as always, that you will / think it is good, but at least it explains a good deal / of why I am what I am and write the way I do. Norman."

Condition: Light staining to early leaves of the uncorrected proof; slight edgewear. Photocopy lightly toned with some minor edgewear and a few small chips and stains.
