Thornton Wilder. Group of 5 First Editions, each signed or inscribed.Thornton Wilder. The Angel That Troubled the Waters and Other Plays. London: Longmans, Green and Co., 1928. 8vo, original blue cloth; dust jacket. FIRST ENGLISH EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR on the front free endpaper: "For Emil and Mary Tonieri: / with the best regards of / their old friend / Thornton Wilder / New Haven / July 1932." The Tonieris were caretakers/managers of the MacDowell Colony, a prestigious artists' residency program in Peterborough, New Hampshire, where Wilder had a significant connection. He was a nine-time fellow at MacDowell, where he worked on his famous play, Our Town, and was the first recipient of the Edward MacDowell Medal. Binding fine; dust jacket unclipped (priced "6/- net"), with spine panel toned and chipped at ends, some other edgewear with small chips or short tears. - Wilder. The Long Christmas Dinner and Other Plays in One Act. New York: Coward-McCann, Inc., 1931. 8vo, original orange-red cloth, spine lettered in silver; silver dust jacket designed by Arthur Hawkins, printed in black and red on upper cover and spine. FIRST EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED on the front free endpaper: "For Emil Tonieri / with the best / regard of / Thornton Wilder / The Colony / June / 1932." Spine lightly dust soiled, light mottling to cloth on front cover; dust jacket unclipped (priced "$2.50"), with some edgewear including chips, short tears, and creasing. - Wilder. The Ides of March. New York: Harper & Brothers, [1948]. 8vo, original black cloth, spine lettered in silver; dust jacket. FIRST EDITION, LIMITED ISSUE, number 277 of 750 copies SIGNED. Touch of wear to extremities, corners a little bumped; dust jacket with front upper flap corner clipped, but price intact on lower flap (priced "2.75"), with minor wear at edges, some light toning or soiling. - Wilder. New York: Harper & Row, Publishers, [1967]. 8vo, original dark blue cloth with printed paper spine label, top edge gilt, others uncut; original mylar dust jacket; publisher's board slipcase with cover label. FIRST EDITION, LIMITED ISSUE, number 193 of 500 copies SIGNED. Very fine. - Wilder. Theophilus North. New York: Harper & Row, Publishers, [1973]. 8vo, original dark blue cloth with printed paper spine label; original mylar dust jacket; publisher's board slipcase with cover label. FIRST EDITION, LIMITED ISSUE, number 265 of 275 copies SIGNED. Book very fine, short tear to mylar dust jacket and a little fading to slipcase top.
