Folio. Publisher's blue printed wrappers. Quarter morocco slipcase, cloth chemise.

FIRST EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE DUO TO HAMMERSTEIN'S ASSISTANT on the title page, primarily in Hammerstein's hand and signed by Rodgers: "Merry Xmas '49 / to / Shirley Potash / from / Richard Rodgers / and / Oscar Hammerstein."

Shirley Potash Clurman (1925-1999) served as Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein 2nd's assistant during the 1949 Broadway debut of South Pacific. Later in her career, she worked in public relations for Time Inc., as an editor at People magazine, as an associate producer for ABC News' "20/20." She was married to Richard M. Clurman, former chief of correspondents and head of Time-Life News Service.

Condition: Wrappers worn and soiled, some loss to upper right corner of front wrapper, not affecting text, tear to front hinge but holding. Some wrinkles and creasing throughout, minor wear.
