Snow-Bound at Eagle's. Boston: Houghton, Mifflin and Company, 1886. 16mo, original blindstamped brown cloth, lettered in gilt on upper cover and spine, edges stained orange. FIRST EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR on the front flyleaf: "To / Madame van de Velde / from her friend, / Bret Harte / London 12th March '86." And with a tiny sketch of a tree on the front free endpaper, signed "B." at corner of page. Minor rubbing to extremities. Bookplate of Alain de Suzannet. BAL 7335.

Cressy. London: Macmillan and Co., 1889. 2 volumes, 8vo, original blue cloth, horizontal ruled borders stamped in green on upper covers and spine, spines gilt-lettered. FIRST ENGLISH EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR TO BOSTON PUBLISHER JAMES R. OSGOOD, on the half-title: "To / James R. Osgood / from / Bret Harte / London Mar. '89." Precedes the American edition. Spines leaned and lightly sunned, minor wear to extremities, covers slightly rubbed. Bookplates of Alain de Suzannet (lot 341a). BAL7345.
