FIRST EDITION of the author's first book, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR on the front free endpaper: "A pine-tree makes a song / out of adverse winds / Sincerely yours, / Lew Sarett." Fine. - Sarett. The Box of God. New York: Henry Holt & Company, 1922. 8vo, original maroon cloth, lettered and decorated in gilt; dust jacket (unclipped). FIRST EDITION. New York: Henry Holt and Company, [1925]. 8vo, original pictorial black cloth decorated in green. FIRST EDITION. With a laid-in piece of white birch bark inscribed with a fair copy manuscript of his three-stanza poem "Hang Me Among Your Winds," SIGNED at end. Some rubbing and wear to cloth; front free endpaper clipped and with a date and location in ink at foot in an unknown hand; some indentations impressed on first few leaves from the of knot of birch bark; some poem underlined in ink. - Sarett. New York: Henry Holt and Company, [1941]. 8vo, original gilt-lettered brown cloth. FIRST EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE POET with a lengthy inscription to his teacher, friend and collaborator, William T. Foster, the former President of Reed College, on the front free endpaper, in part: "...As a result of your impact upon me - of your writing and yourself - my whole life has been affected profoundly - for abundant good..." A Fine copy.
