8vo (218 x 138 mm). Engraved title device, woodcut head- and tail-pieces. Contemporary gilt-ruled English calf; quarter morocco folding case.

FIRST EDITION, LARGE AND FINE PAPER COPY of Gay's town Georgic. "Copies on large paper have an engraved street scene at the head of Book I (p. 1), and elaborate engraved ornaments at the beginnings of Books II (p. 21) and III (p. 53), where small paper copies have printer's ornaments" (Rothschild). Lintott printed 2000 of these ordinary copies and a further 250 copies on fine paper (as here). A second London edition and two Dublin editions appeared in the same year.

Condition: Rebacked to style; corners repaired. Occasional pale spotting or soiling.
