FIRST EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR with a lengthy illustrated inscription on the front free endpaper: "Richard Watts Esq. Junior / with deep gratitude from from his colleague / John Betjeman / ...1943." Followed by a lengthy inscription about this early collection and that he has marked in the contents list "the only verses of any merit," in each upper corner of the page he has drawn the British and French flags and below a U.S. Flag with a quote citing Oliver Wendell Holmes; he also has annotated the dust jacket flap, and the illustration on p. 32.
