Geronimo: A Superb and Rare 1899 Cabinet Photo by William E. Irwin. This iconic image shows the Apache leader with full feathered headdress and a fierce expression and brandishing a rare Texas-made Dance revolver. It is a silver gelatin print on the original mount of "Irwin, Chickasha, Indian Territory". On verso is written in period hand, "Geronimo, Chief of the Notorious Band of Arizona Apache Indians now a prisoner of war - Ft. Sill". Also on verso is a sticker identifying this photo as ex-Volkman Wentzel Collection, Washington, D.C.
