Description

Red Cloud and Chiefs: A Rare Carte de Visite Version of this Important Image. Taken at Omaha in May, 1875 when the chiefs were en route to Washington, D.C. to discuss the Black Hills question with President Grant. Pictured with Red Cloud are Spotted Tail, Swift Bear and Sitting Bull (an Arapaho Chief, not the Lakota Medicine Man), as well as Julius Meyer, the interpreter who accompanied them. This may be a period pirated version, as it lacks the back stamp of the photographer, Frank F. Currier of Omaha. A very strong image, in nice condition with one vertical crease not affecting the portraits. Rounded corners as made. 2.375" x 3.75".
