Description

George and Libby Custer: A Pair of Oil and Watercolor Portraits. Uncovered in their hometown of Monroe, Michigan, these well-executed portraits present youthful visages. They may well date from the period after the Civil War when Custer was posted to Texas and cut his famous long hair short because of the heat. Each measures 10.25" x 13", matted to 13.5" x 17". Original dark red velvet liner around each portrait. Given the size and quality of the artwork, and the Monroe origin, it seems probable that they were executed for the couple themselves or for other relations.
