 Description
Folk Art: Federal Period Coat of Arms Watercolor by John Scoles. 9.5" x 13.75" [sight] framed watercolor titled "By The Name of Loring". It has the Loring coat-of-arms beneath an early depiction of the American flag prevalent before the adoption of a standardized version. A pencil inscription on the bottom reads: "Augustus P. Loring Beacon St. Boston". The back has a label inscribed "Painted by John Scoles Engraver & Artist of Boston" and a paper sticker that says "Knittle Collection Auctioned Nov. 1962". Damp stains around perimeter with loss to bottom right corner. Not examined out of frame. Circa 1780-1800.Auction Info
