Description

John F. Kennedy: Typed Letter Signed. One page on Congress of the United States letterhead, 8" x 11", Washington; November 15, 1952. A letter addressed to "Lillian," that reads, in full, "I am sure you know how much I appreciate all of your efforts during the past months of the campaign. We would never have been successful against the Republican sweep, I am sure, if it had not been for the untiring efforts at Headquarters of the 'Volunteers.' I am especially grateful to you for your help, and I am looking forward to having the opportunity to thank you personally. I hope you will let me know if there is anything I can do." Signed, "John Kennedy" with an additional note that reads, "Many thanks Lillian."

Kennedy wrote this letter shortly after winning the 1952 Massachusetts Senate election against Republican Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. Kennedy's campaign was characterized by grassroots initiatives and the congressman had visited every city, town, and village in the state by election day. In the early days of the campaign, Kennedy amassed a record number of signatures for his petition for office and many of those signers later worked as campaign volunteers. It is likely that Lillian was one of these supporters.

Condition: Lightly toned with a slight stain to the right margin.
