Description

Appomattox Court House Terms of Surrender: Rare In-the-Field Printed Announcement. 5.25" x 8.25" document, printed on one side, Appomattox Court House, Va., April 10th, 1865." It details the terms of surrender entered into that day vis-a-vis "... the Army of Northern Virginia to the United States Authorities." Signed in type by three Union generals (Gibbon, Griffin and Merritt) as well as three Confederate generals (Longstreet, Gordon and Pendleton). Designated at bottom as an "Official Copy". Faint vertical fold, irregularly trimmed on three sides. A significant piece.
