Description

Large Group of Harvard University Medals and Badges. This fantastic group of sixty medals and badges from Harvard University provides a glimpse into the school's history of colorful and wide-ranging clubs and organizations. With the earliest medallion dating from the late 18th century, these range from the fraternal medals of Phi Beta Kappa and Delta Kappa Epsilon to those for club members including the Hasty Pudding Club, Porcellian Club, Fencing Club, and so many more. Designs appear both stately and charming, often bearing a detailed likeness of an animal, athlete, or floral element. Sizes within this group span from a band medal with a diameter of just under 3/4" to a weighty bronze medal with a diameter of 3 1/4" bearing a bust in profile of Harvard University's president, Charles William Eliot, designed by Leon Deschamps and executed by the French mint in 1907. This particular medal is accompanied by velvet protectors and a 4 1/8" x 4 1/8" card with the maker information. Medals are in good condition with varying states of toning. Of the multiple badges and ribboned medals, the ribbons are in overall good condition with minor staining but vibrant colors. This grouping has too much history and character to pass up.
