Description
John F. Kennedy: President's Trip To Dallas Texas November 1963. A rare group of material pertaining to JFK's trip to Texas, and the preceding days. First there is an invitation and parking pass for a White House reception held two days before JFK's death. The reception was held in the East Room honoring the federal judiciary, and included the presence of Supreme Court Justices. It was tragically the last night the President would spend in the White House, as he traveled to Texas the following day. The invitation and parking pass were sent to Justice Charles Evans Whitaker, who was appointed by President Eisenhower. The invitation measures 4 1/4" x 6 1/4", and the parking pass measures 3 1/2" x 4 1/2". The next two pieces are copies of the speeches the President was going to give at the Trade Mart on November 22 and at the Texas Welcome Dinner in Austin that evening. Each measures 8 1/2" x 13 1/2", one has a water stain. Next is an invitation to the Dallas Trade Mart Luncheon along with the seating assignment and original mailing envelope. The invitation measures 7" x 9 3/4" and the seating assignment card measures 3" x 3". Next is the invitation, gold admittance ticket, ticket order form and mailing envelope for the Texas Welcome dinner at 7:30PM on November 22nd. The invitation measures 7" x 9 3/4", the gold ticket measures 2 1/2' x 4", and the order form measures 3' x 5". Lastly there is a (ALS) Autograph Letter Signed by the assassin of Lee Harvey Oswald Jack Ruby. The brief letter is date 4/12/64, and was written from jail to Ceryl McDonald. Ruby thanks her for sending a card, in part: "You must be a wonderful person to take the time to send me same under the circumstances". The letter measures 4" x 6". The archive is in excellent condition, and is a reminder of that tragic day in Dallas some 56 years ago, and quite scarce having the invitation made out to an invited guest.
