Abraham Lincoln Assassination: Early Navy Department Announcement. "General Order, No. 51", Navy Department, Washington, D.C., April 15, 1865, signed in type by Gideon Welles as Secretary of the Navy, announcing the death of President Lincoln to the officers and men of the Navy and Marine Corps. Printed on the front page of 5.5" x 8.25" bifolium paper. Black border, issued just hours after the President's death. Affixed along left edge to backing sheet, separation and minor spots of paper loss along the folds repaired with archival tissue. Pinholes at corners, light soiling and foxing.Auction Info
