Description

Warren G. Harding: Personally-Used Presidential Golf Ball. Golf ball stamped "Harding" on both sides, but unmarked as to maker. Stamped "Japan". Accompanied by a period photo of President Harding about to tee off, a letter from the last seller of the item (noted presidential collector Raleigh DeGeer Amyx) and a signed note to Amyx from Lillian Rogers Parks who worked at the White House from 1929 to 1960 and wrote a memoir of her experience there. She states: "...As a young girl I often went with my Mother who worked at the White House from 1909 to 1939. I found this ball while playing on the White House lawn." Inscriptions somewhat light. One large "smile" below the name, indicating the President was a bit of a duffer. The first President to actively play the game was William Howard Taft. This is the earliest presidential ball we have seen.
