Description

John C. Breckinridge: Rare Portrait Ribbon. Perhaps because of the comparative availability of the Brady single portrait and jugate ribbon designs, many collectors fail to realize just how rare ribbons are for the regular 1860 Democratic Candidates. This is a single example with a larger head and lettering. In terms of examples known, non-Brady Breckinridge ribbons are far rarer than those for sought-after candidates such as Jackson, Cass, Scott, and Pierce. Measuring at 2" x 5 5/8", this sample has toning throughout with a 1/4" tear and a couple of small spots of loss at the bottom edge. A small piece of adhesive tape is present on the back at the top edge. Overall, this rare ribbon is in good condition with a nice portrait of Breckinridge and attractive bold fonts. No minimum bid. From the J.Doyle Dewitt Collection.
