Description

Thomas Nast: Original Sketch of "The Two Big Men of the House". Congressman William Bourke Cockran is pictured on the left, and Speaker of the House Thomas Reed is pictured on the right. Reed was sometimes referred to as "Czar Reed", and had great influence over the House. Cockran was a leading orator for much of his political career, and had an early influence on future Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Reed looks to be demanding something, while Cockran seems to be preparing for a speech. The piece measures 10.75" x 17.5" overall, be two mounted separate drawings. Nast has signed his name at the lower right corner with the date 1893.

Condition: Loss below Reed's name, old mounting remnants on verso, else fine.
