Description
The Massachusetts Gazette (Boston, Ma.): Repeal of the 1765 Stamp Act by the British Parlament. May 29, 1766, 4 pgs., 9 3/4" x 16". Newspaper (Page 3) contains an inside page news report of "...the joyful news of the repeal of the Stamp-act..." It also contains a prominent inside page headline: "BOSTON / ODE / On the Repeal of the Stamp Act" with a full column poem celebrating the REPEAL OF THE STAMP ACT by the BRITISH PARLIAMENT. In 1766, the British Parliament repealed the Stamp Act, which had imposed taxes on printed materials in the American colonies. This decision was primarily driven by the economic impact of colonial boycotts on British goods, which significantly affected British trade. However, the repeal was accompanied by the Declaratory Act, which asserted Parliament's authority to legislate for the colonies "in all cases whatsoever".Condition: Paper has been rice paper backed for stability, minor loss at top edge. A rare issue.
