Description

Zachary Taylor: A Stunning Gilt Clock Depicting Him on Horseback. Most of the more refined and elegant presidential items produced in the antebellum period were products of France. These were marketed to the more well-to-do in the fledgling republic. This mantel or desk clock features "General Zachary Taylor" seated on his beloved stead Whitey. The clock and decorative elements are made of porcelain and gilt brass and stand 7" tall. It is attached to a 6" x 4" wooden base with a velvet covered platform. The original glass dome covers everything, and completes the ensemble. This dome is of a unique oval shape, designed exclusively for this clock. It could not be practically reproduced. The clock may or may not be in working order, but is otherwise in spectacular condition.
