4-Digit 7th Cavalry Custer U.S. Colt Single Action Army Revolver.
Serial no. 6442 [frame, triggerguard, cylinder and butt], .45 caliber, 7 1/2-inch barrel with fixed front blade sight and frame notch rear sight. Blued finish. Top of barrel marked: - COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD. CT. U.S.A. -. Two-line, two-date patent and U.S. stamped to left side of frame. Ainsworth "A" inspector mark to cylinder, triggerguard, barrel and backstrap. "P" stamped to base of barrel and cylinder. Smooth walnut one-piece grip. Manufactured in 1874. The serial number falls in the range of Custer's 7th Cavalry troops, initial issues of revolvers during July of 1874. Accompanied by copy of a John A. Kopec letter dated October 5, 1998.

Condition: Good. Finish primarily a smooth grey patina with noticeable areas of handling wear, age and pitting. Scattered scuffs, bruises and dings present to wood. Heavy loss to corners. Action good. Lightly pitted bore. The Michael Ward Collection of Western Americana
