Henry Model 1860 Repeating Lever Action Rifle Issued to 3rd U.S. Veteran Volunteer Infantry.Serial no. 7706 [top of barrel], .44 rimfire caliber, 24-inch barrel with fixed front sight and rear folding ladder sight. Blued finish. Top of barrel marked: HENRY'S PATENT OCT. 16 1860 / MANUFACT'D BY THE NEW HAVEN ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CT. Brass receiver with case-hardened hammer and lever. Oil-stained walnut straight stock. Sling swivel and sling eye. Crescent brass buttplate with cleaning rod reservoir. Manufactured in 1864. According to The Historic Henry Rifle book, by Wiley Sword, Henry rifles in the serial number ranges 7000 to 8000 and 8600 to 9700 were furnished by the factory for Veteran Volunteers., page 56. Serial number is also listed in the book, page 75, as Henry rifles reported by the 3rd Regiment U.S. Veteran Volunteer Infantry. Book is included with the rifle.
Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a smooth grey patina with honest signs of age, handling wear and fines patches of pitting. Scattered scuffs and dings present to wood. Cleaning rod absent. Action good. Moderately pitted bore. The Michael Ward Collection of Western Americana
