Description

Abraham Lincoln: "Studious" Images. Pair of cartes-de-visite showing Lincoln posed with a book and a newspaper. These are O-72 and O-73, taken by Alexander Gardner in Washington, D.C. on August 9, 1863. These are part of a group of six different images taken at that one sitting. Although these were, in our opinion, both issued by Gardner, only one has his back mark. The other, with Lincoln holding a pair of eyeglasses, is blank. Both have cancelled revenue stamps. Very scarce. From the collection of Dr. Michael Krane.
