Description

Andrew Jackson: Seldom-Offered Campaign Thread Box. 4" x 4" x 3.5" cardboard box with beveled base and lid, covered with rainbow-hued paper trim. The cloth pincushion top is inscribed in orange ink "Jackson and No Corruption" above a magenta flower. The slogan pinpoints the date of manufacture as 1828, since reference is made to the "Corrupt Bargain" of 1824. The underside of the lid houses an engraving under glass of Jackson in military uniform. Amazingly, this example still has the two silk "hinges" in place and intact, a rarity in itself. It apparently had a strip of paper affixed to the top rear, securing the lid at its base, but this is no longer present, although easily replaced. Jackson thread boxes are infinitely rarer than those for John Quincy Adams. No minimum bid. From the J.Doyle Dewitt Collection.
