Description

"Wild Bill" Hickok: A Rare 1867 Magazine with Illustrated Feature Article about his Exploits. Very early appearance of such exhaustive treatment of Hickok in Harper's New Monthly Magazine. As is often the case with 19th century periodicals, continuous numbering of pages was used through a given year. This is a complete issue, No. CCI-February, 1867-Vol. XXXIV, but the pages are numbered 274-408 removed from a bound volume. The Hickok article begins on the front cover and extends over 13 pages, with no less than 8 terrific woodcut illustrations (our favorite is one of Wild Bill's famous horse Nell standing on a billiard table, with Hickok standing beside). The first example we have ever encountered. Very good condition, with slight edge roughness and some light browning on the front page. Last page, in advertising appendix, partially separated.
