Jim McIntire. Early Days in Texas; a Trip to Hell and Heaven. Kansas City: McIntire Publishing Company, 1902. First edition. 8vo. 229pp. Illustrated with fourteen plates, including portrait and frontispiece. Green cloth, with red and black designs and lettering to boards; gilt lettering to spine. Bookplate of previous owner to front pastedown. Some abrasions to the extremities. Very good."The author, himself a fugitive, earlier served as a peace officer in several towns of the West. He tells a great deal about such gunmen as Billy the Kid and Jim Courtright. He was city marshal of Las Vegas, New Mexico, when the mob tried to take Dave Rudabaugh from the train while Dave and the Kid were prisoners of Pat Garrett. He refers to the Kid as the 'notorious Mexican outlaw.' He tells about running Wyatt Earp and Mysterious Dave Mathers out of Mobeetie for trying to play the old gold-brick game there, and about his later close association with Jim Courtright" (Adams, Six-Guns).
