New York: Harper & Brothers, Publications, 1859. First edition. 8vo. viii, [15]-340 pp. Frontispiece, 10" X 12" folding map - "Sketch of the Different Roads Embraced in the Itineraries", 10 full-page wood engravings, and numerous illustrations in text. Contents sound with only the hint of toning to the pages. Folding map with a 3" closed tear in the fold crease and rather wrinkled from improper folding. A very good copy of this important work."After half a lifetime spent in the western plains and in the Rocky Mountains, Captain Marcy was well qualified to advise the prospective emigrant, and he ably summarized his experience in this book. By 1859, the routes of overland travel had been well established, and Marcy set out twenty-eight of them." - Wagner-Camp.
