Description

Chester Alan Arthur: Hopeful Ribbon from 1884. 1.75" x 5" silk ribbon with bold albumen photo of President Arthur, inscribed "Chester A. Arthur." This is no doubt a hopeful ribbon from the 1884 Republican National Convention. There is at least one ribbon known specifically touting Arthur for President (Sullivan-Fischer Miscellaneous 1884-#1). This is further substantiated by the existence of a matching Blaine ribbon. We depict, for reference purposes, the Blaine and Arthur ribbons side by side. We are offering the desirable Arthur example only (red ribbon to extreme left). There is some fraying at top & bottom, but it is quite nice overall with an exceptionally resonant photo.
