CLOTH FRAGMENT FROM THE FIRST SUCCESSFUL POWERED CONTROLLED FLIGHT IN HISTORY.

Brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright achieved the first successful powered control flight in history with the Wright Flyer on December 17, 1903. Orville Wright later bequeathed a section of the muslin cloth from the first successful flight to aviation expert Lester Gardner. Later, collector Otto Kallir acquired the fabric from Gardner and used it to construct a 1:42 model of the Wright Flyer. Years later, the Kallir model was sold at auction and, unfortunately, was severely damaged during shipping. CAG expertly removed the cloth from the wings of the damaged model and encapsulated the pieces, including the present example.

Condition: Fine.

Provenance: Ex. Otto Kallir Collection.
