Description

Abraham Lincoln: Wigwam Convention Tally Card. Evocative ephemera from the Chicago convention that nominated Lincoln for the Presidency in 1860. There are two items in this lot. The first is an envelope with a pencil inscription on the front: "Tally Kept by R. N. Evanson. Ballot on Lincoln for President in Chicago". The envelope housed the second item in this lot... a coated stock trade card from a Chicago business with a list of Republican presidential candidates on the verso along with votes received on the first, second and final ballots. Not surprisingly, Seward heads the list with Lincoln in second position. Some creases and light soiling on both the envelope and tally card. Owned by a true "witness to history" from the most important political convention in our history.
