Description

Breckinridge & Lane: A Stunning 1860 Jugate Ribbon. Breckinridge, James Buchanan's vice president, would become the standard bearer of the conservative, southern-oriented wing of the Democratic Party in 1860. When the Civil War broke out he would rally to the Southern cause, becoming a prominent general. Breckinridge ribbons of any design are rare. Sullivan & Fischer picture only three varieties, and this is the sole jugate. Very choice example with full original selvage across top and bottom. 2.125" x 7.25". From the Merrill C. Berman Collection.
