The Book with the Golden Gun

Jonathan Cape, [1965].8vo. Publisher's dark gray Linson boards, variant binding with large gun design blocked in gilt on upper cover, spine blocked in gilt; original pictorial dust jacket by Richard Chopping.
FIRST EDITION, FIRST STATE, in the rare first issue binding with the golden gun on upper cover. This first issue binding is by far the rarest state of all the James Bond novels, and was rejected in favor of a cheaper alternative (it has been estimated that only fifty to one hundred or so copies are extant).
Condition: Very slight fading to board edges; a few tiny spots or small stains on text block fore-edge; binding very slightly leaned. Dust jacket with price "18s net" unclipped, flap corners tips clipped as issued; a few minor bumps or rubbing to extremities; slight toning and mild spotting to flap extremes; hint of soiling to flap folds and rear panel. Overall, a very fine copy.
