Description

Rare Signed Photo of an Early Rocketry Pioneer.

Max Valier Photo Signed. A 6" x 8.5" printed B&W photo signed in the wide lower border. Valier (1895-1930) was a scientific writer on the subject of rocketry and space travel and also worked with Fritz von Opel on a number of rocket-powered cars and aircraft. In 1930 he performed the first test drive of a rocket car with liquid propulsion. Valier died that same year when an alcohol-fueled rocket exploded on his test bench. He helped found the German Verein für Raumschiffahrt (Spaceflight Society), bringing together many of the minds that would eventually make spaceflight a reality in the twentieth century. This particular photo was given out as a membership promotion for this society. Very fine condition.
