Description

A Texas Flag Flown Aboard Man's First Trip to the Moon.

Apollo 8 Flown Texas Flag Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Command Module Pilot James Lovell, Certified. On the white stripe of this 5.5" x 3.75" silk flag, Lovell has written: "This Texas Flag was flown on board Apollo 8 Dec 1968". This world watched this mission in amazement: their Christmas Eve television broadcast from lunar orbit was the most watched TV program to that time and Time Magazine named the three crewmembers their "Men of the Year" for 1968. A great space collectible- a flag from Texas, the home to Apollo's Mission Control, that accompanied Lovell, Anders, and Borman on the first ever manned voyage to another celestial body. Excellent condition.

This lot includes a signed Letter of Certification from Lovell stating: "[This item] was flown on the first journey to the moon on December 21, 1968 on board the Apollo 8 Spacecraft."
