Description
Lovell's Flight Suit Name Tag from the Last of the Gemini Missions.
Gemini 12 Flown Flight Suit Name Tag Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander James Lovell. A 5.25" x 2" piece of black cloth with the name, "J.A. LOVELL JR.", embroidered in white. This was on the right chest of his suit during the flight and can be seen in many photos. An original 5" x 7" Navy photo from Lovell's collection, picturing him and Aldrin aboard the U.S.S. Wasp shortly after recovery in their flight suits, is included with this lot. This mission, November 11-15, 1966, was the last flight of the Gemini Program. The name tag directly from an astronaut's flight suit is one of the "holy grails" of space collecting. Excellent condition.Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Certification from Lovell on his letterhead stating: "I hereby certify that this Flight Suit Name Tag was removed from the suit I wore on my Gemini 12 flight. It was given to me shortly after my return on the Gemini 12 mission in November, 1966. This tag is from my personal collection of space artifacts and has been in my possession since the mission."
