Description

Civil War-Era Snare Drum by C. K. Hawes, Portland, Maine. Approximately 16-inches in diameter and 12-inches high. Wooden shell secured at the seam with copper tacks. C. K. Hawes maker label affixed on the inside of the shell and visible through the vent hole. Appears to have the original rope and leather ears which bear simple engraved designs. The drum is complete with six strands of snare gut through a brass strainer. Both the batter and snare counterhoops are present but not seated, and will need some restoration to fit them properly. Both heads are present and complete.

Condition: About very good. Complete, but in need of modest restoration. The leather ears are dry and in some cases suffer some loss. A great display piece.
