[Civil War Era]. James Murdock: Fourteenth Maine Infantry Certificate Lithograph.

An engraved soldier's service certificate lithograph fulfilled in manuscript at center for one James Murdock of Company G with the 14th Regiment of Maine Volunteers. 15" x 20". Lithographed by P. S. & Son. Philadelphia: Case & Backer, 1864. It is bordered with oval portraits of twenty-six Union generals with Presidents Lincoln and Washington. It records an enlistment date of February 25, 1862 with re-enlistment in April 1864. He was wounded October 19, 1864 [at the Battle of Cedar Creek, Virginia] and participated in the battles of Baton Rouge, Winchester, Fisher's Hill and Cedar Creek. The lithograph is accompanied by a separate wooden frame.

James Murdock's wound at Cedar Creek resulted in the amputation of his right leg and he was discharged for the wound June 22, 1865.

Condition: Edgewear including a few closed tears at upper margin, the largest of which measures 1", none of which affect image. Scattered toning, soiling and foxing.
