Named Confederate Civil War Southern Cross of Honor.

The top bar is hand engraved 'B. (BENDA) W. (WILLIE) BARNES'. Research suggests he served in the 3rd North Carolina Light Infantry. The cross is maker marked 'The Whitehead & Hoag Co Newark N.J.'.
Please note: The Southern Cross was a medal awarded by the United Daughters of the Confederacy from 1900 to 1959 to honor Confederate veterans for loyal service during the Civil War. Its shaped like a Maltese cross, symbolized remembrance and pride in Southern heritage.

Condition: Very good for its age. Age wear and patina.
