Description
Lot of Two U.S. Officers' Swords: Model 1852 Naval Officers' Sword and Model 1850 Staff and Field Officers' Sword.Includes: 1) U.S. Model 1852 Naval Officer's sword with a 28-inch etched bright blade, wire-wrapped fish skin grips, gilded-brass hilt. Black leather scabbard with two gilded-brass mounts and drag. 2) U.S. Model 1850 Staff and Field Officers' sword with a 30 3/4-inch etched straight blade, wire-wrapped leather grip and gilded-brass hilt. The blade is maker-marked "Staderman" on the reverse ricasso. Inside of hilt dated "1863". Iron scabbard with fitted brass mounts, throat and drag. Remnants of the carrying straps still on the mounting rings.
Condition: 1) Blade with some scabbard-storage wear, very good. 2) Blade with uniform dark areas of spotting, several moderate to heavy nicks in the cutting edge. Iron scabbard with gray patina; the drag with several dents; wood shim inside scabbard is loose making it sometimes difficult to seat the sword fully. Good condition.
