Backstrap reads: J.B. Dozier
Inscribed Remington 1861 Conversion Single Action Revolver ID'd
to Medal of Honor [MOH] Winner.Serial no. 4758 [frame under grip], .44 caliber, 8-inch octagonal barrel with fixed front sight and frame notch rear sight. Blued and case-hardened finish. Backstrap inscribed: J.B. DOZIER. Brass triggerguard. Smooth walnut grip panels. Lanyard ring.
Note: According to consignor notes, James B. Dozier is one of only eight civilian recipients of the Medal of Honor, for his role during the Indian Wars. As a civilian scout during the Indian Wars, he received the award "for gallantry in action and on the march." This occurred in 1870 at the Little Wichita River in Texas during a battle with the Keechi.
Condition: Very good. Cylinder still showing some blue finish, the balance a smooth grey patina with scattered signs of handling wear and patches of pitting. Scuffs and dings present to wood. Action good. Strong bore.
