Endeavour, the fifth and final shuttle orbiter, was built as a replacement to Challenger, lost in the tragic explosion of STS-51-L soon after launch in 1986. Its first mission was STS-49 which launched on May 7, 1992, and its twenty-fifth and last mission was STS-134, May 16, 2011, the next-to-last launch of the entire program. After 296 days in space and 122 million miles travelled, Endeavour has been retired and will be displayed at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.
