Inscribed Colt Wells Fargo Model 1849 Pocket Single Action
Revolver.Serial no. 140069 [barrel, frame, triggerguard, cylinder and butt], .31 caliber, 3-inch octagonal barrel with fixed front sight. Blued and case-hardened finish. Inscribed cylinder scene. Top of barrel marked: ADDRESS SAML COLT / NEW YORK CITY. Left side of frame stamped: COLTS / PATENT. Smooth walnut one-piece grip. Brass gripstraps. Backstrap inscribed: CHAS H. MILLIGAN. Manufactured in 1858. This revolver has the distinctive octagonal barrel with no provision for loading lever and is in the correct 140000 range for "Wells Fargo Model". Very desirable variation.
Condition: Fine. Retaining traces of original finish, the balance a smooth grey patina with scattered signs of handling wear, age and fine patches of pitting. Dings and scuffs present to wood. Action good. Lightly pitted bore.
