Rare Remington 1875 Pine River Indian Police Single Action Revolver.

Serial no. 718 [frame under grip], .44-40 caliber, 7 1/2-inch barrel with fixed front sight and frame notch rear sight. Nickel-plated finish. Top of barrel marked: E. REMINGTON & SONS ILION N.Y. U.S.A. Left side of loading lever housing stamped: P R / 36. Smooth walnut grip panels. .44 to left side of triggerbow.
Note: According to handwritten notes provided by the consignor, the revolver was one of fifty 1875's to be shipped to the Pine Ridge Indian Police in South Dakota. They were the only reservation to mark the revolvers, this one being PR36.

Condition: Very good. Retaining approximately 50-60% finish with noticeable thinning areas, handling wear and patches of pitting. Trivial letter engravings to right side of frame and butt. Tracking line to cylinder. Scattered scuffs and dings present to wood. Action crisp. Strong bore. The Michael Ward Collection of Western Americana
