Description
Custer Range, Pre-1876 made.
U.S. Springfield 1873 Trapdoor Saddle Ring Carbine.Serial no. 21028, .45-70 caliber, 22-inch barrel with fixed front sight and rear elevation sight. Blued finish. Breechblock marked: MODEL / 1873 / (eagle head) / US. Saddle ring. (eagle) and U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / 1873 to lock. Smooth walnut straight stock with swivel. Metal carbine butt marked: U.S. / 9 / N.G.C.
Note: Considered in the serial number range for the ones sent to the 7th US Cavalry under Custer at Battle of Little Big Horn.

Condition: Very good. Finish a bright grey patina with scattered signs of handling wear, age and patches of pitting. Heavy scuffs, dings and bruising present to wood. Action good. Lightly pitted bore. The Michael Ward Collection of Western Americana
