U.S. Springfield 1873 Trapdoor Saddle Ring Carbine.

Serial no. 21028, .45-70 caliber, 22-inch barrel with fixed front sight and rear elevation sight. Blued finish. Breechblock marked: MODEL / 1873 / (eagle head) / US. Saddle ring. (eagle) and U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / 1873 to lock. Smooth walnut straight stock with swivel. Metal carbine butt marked: U.S. / 9 / N.G.C.
Note: Considered in the serial number range for the ones sent to the 7th US Cavalry under Custer at Battle of Little Big Horn.
