Description
D-Day Invasion: HMS Hawkins Union Jack.102" x 51" silk flag, sleeve hoist stamped "England" and, handwritten in ink, "HMS Hawkins Normandy 1944". The Hawkins participated in Operation Neptune, the naval invasion of Normandy in June 1944. She bombarded German coastal defenses at Grandcamp-Maisy and Saint Martin-de-Varreville, as part of the Western Task Force Gunfire Support Bombardment Force U, supporting the landing of American troops at Utah Beach. Ex: Dr. Clarence Rungee Collection.
Condition: Excellent.
