Description

U.S. Infantry Officers' Bicorn or Chapeau de Bras, Circa 1830s. 18 ½-inches from front to back; 9-inches to the top of the crown. Black beaver skin hat with a 1 ½-inch wide moire silk trim. Silk lining, with a partial maker's mark (Lothrop?). Leather sweatband. Front with infantry button on a 2-inch wide silver-wire lace, this set atop a multi-layer black-silk rosette.

Condition: Good. Moderate wear, with some storage soiling. Silk lining in shreds; about half the leather sweatband missing.
