Description

Colt Model 1889 Navy Double Action Revolver with Rare Special Order Barrel.
Serial no. 8622, .38 caliber, 7 ½-inch barrel with blade front sight and address reading: COLT'S PT F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A./PATENTED AUG. 5TH 1884 NOVEMBER 6TH 1888. Left side of barrel marked: COLT. D.A.38. Nickel-plated finish. Fire-blued hammer and trigger. The numeral 1 is observed on barrel, crane, frame, cylinder and latch. Rampant Colt left side of frame. The frame itself suggests a carefully custom-ordered example as it is slightly different in contour. Mother-of-pearl grip panels. Butt is carefully engraved: W.S.D. Manufactured 1890. According to Wilson in "The Book of Colt Firearms" the factory records indicate only about a dozen of this model were issued with inscriptions and monograms and that barrels longer than 6-inches could be special ordered. This is a very rare example.

Condition: Excellent. Retaining approximately 85-90% original nickel finish. Numerous, very fine scratches present. Light spotting in cylinder flutes. Grips excellent, slightly small for frame. Bright bore with light wear. Action crisp.
