Description

Apollo 14 Flown American Flag and Mission Patch Originally Presented by Mission Commander Alan Shepard, Signed and Certified. A 5.625" x 4" U.S. cloth flag and a 4.75" x 4.125" embroidered mission insignia patch mounted with a lunar surface photo and framed to an overall 22.5" x 18.5". Alan Shepard has signed on the mat board beneath the photo: "Presented to the students of Delta State College/ with my warmest personal regards/ Alan Shepard/ 5/11/71". Also handwritten on the mat, beneath the patch, is "Flag and insignia flown to the moon/ on Apollo 14 - 1/31 to 2/9/71". Research shows that Shepard was at Delta State College that day to speak to the annual meeting of the Delta Council held there. The photo and handwriting have faded somewhat (as is typical); the flag and patch are in very fine condition.
